As the year-long Canada 150 celebrations come to a close, residents are encouraged to enjoy the final free skating and swimming activities this weekend.
The last Canada 150 skate takes place on Friday evening from 8:15 - 9:45 p.m. with free entry at the Labor Club. With skating being such a popular and iconic Canadian activity, it's only fitting that dozens of free skating events were added to the calendar to celebrate Canada 150.
On Sunday, December 31, the first 150 people at Nicholas Sheran Pool will swim for free, marking the final Canada 150 Swim. Nicholas Sheran Pool will be open from noon - 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Free swim and skate activities were added throughout 2017 to encourage community members to try new activities and new facilities, and to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. As well, the City threw the biggest Canada Day event seen in our community and provided grant funding to dozens of other events to help with the cost of incorporating a Canada 150 theme into their usual events.
