Road Closures required for final stages of Métis Trail Project

As crews close in on the final stages of the Métis Trail West construction project, motorists should be aware of required road closures over the next several weeks.

University Drive/Walsh Drive/Heritage Boulevard West Intersection
Starting Wednesday August 8, work will begin on the final asphalt paving in this area. This will require a series of lane closures over approximately one week, weather permitting. Northbound and southbound traffic on University Drive will be maintained at all times but will be reduced to a single lane each way.

Country Meadows Boulevard/ Métis Trail
A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Métis Trail and Country Meadows Blvd. In order to facilitate this work, the existing access to the Country Meadows community will be closed. A temporary access has been built onto 30 Street West from Country Meadows Blvd to provide access during construction.

It is anticipated that the closure will begin on August 8 and will be in place for approximately 6 weeks, weather permitting. The pathway connecting Country Meadows to West Highlands will remain open as long as possible, but will need to be closed at some point to facilitate construction.

Motorists are asked to use caution in all construction zones and follow the posted detour signage.

The Métis Trail project, which began in 2017, includes the construction of Métis Trail from Walsh to Whoop-Up Dr W. as well as intersection improvement at University Dr W/Walsh Dr W to handle increased volumes. The project is on schedule to be complete in September of this year. For more information visit
