Fire at north Lethbridge business early Saturday morning

Fire crews responded to a fully-involved structure fire at Lafarge Canada, 530 - 9 Avenue North, at approximately 3:08 a.m. Saturday.

Crews from five stations arrived on scene to find a large warehouse building fully involved with fire and flames coming from most of the roof. High winds were blowing smoke and embers to the east of the structure and several trees were also on fire. Crews were hampered by the design of the building, as well as high winds, but were able to control the fire within a few hours.

Residents immediately east of the area were evacuated for several hours due to the smoke and embers.

There were no injuries reported.

Crews will continue to monitor the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Damage is estimated at $3 million to $4 million.
