Free parking day and new parking cards encourage downtown visitors

‚ÄčAs the holiday shopping season begins, the City of Lethbridge is introducing new parking incentives to encourage visitors to the downtown.

Two free parking Fridays will happen on November 16 to coincide with the Bright Lights Festival and December 7 in conjunction with the Downtown Business Revitalization Zone's First Friday event.

On these days, all downtown customer parking will be free of charge. Those trying to pay through the Way to Park app or on-street kiosk will be notified that payment is not required on these days.

The City is also excited to provide another payment option for downtown parking with the introduction of new prepaid parking cards. These reloadable cards can be used at any downtown parking kiosk and with the Way to Park mobile app. For those who don't own a credit card or don't want to use it for parking fees, the new card can be used as an alternative to carrying cash.

Parking cards are available for purchase at City Hall and can be loaded with any dollar amount. When that money is used up, the card owner can return to City Hall to have it reloaded. There is a one-time purchase fee of $5 for a parking card but no additional fees when the card is reloaded.

An online portal also allows customers/businesses the opportunity to view the card balance and previous transactions.
