To help simplify ride experiences, Lethbridge Transit is looking for public feedback on fare structure payment options for its users.
Beginning January 1, 2023, Lethbridge Transit will be introducing a new fare collection system that will allow for fare payment by credit card, debit card or phone in addition to cash. This new system will make the current fare structure obsolete and allow for new options to improve system access and equity by capping fares at pre-determined levels, eliminating the need for customers to purchase monthly passes.
"This new fare collection technology allows Lethbridge Transit to price our services in a way that improves equity and incentivizes increased usage," says Timothy Sanderson, General Manager of Lethbridge Transit. "We are excited about having a conversation with the community in order to develop and recommend a strategy that preserves our revenue and potentially increases our customer base even further."
Residents have the opportunity to give feedback on the fare strategy via a public survey at getinvolvedlethbridge.ca. The website also provides links to access the Lethbridge Transit virtual public engagement sessions being held:
- March 8, 12 p.m.
- March 10, 6 p.m.
- March 15, 12 p.m.
There will be an in person information session March 22, 6 p.m. at the Lethbridge Park n' Ride.
The survey is open until March 23. The results of the survey and the proposed fare strategy will be presented to the Civic Works SPC May 5.
