Call for mural artists now open

The City of Lethbridge Public Art Program and Heart of Our City Committee are excited to move forward with the next phase of the Mural Pilot Project as they open up a call to artists. Lethbridge and area artists, with experience in community-based art, can access application information at https://www.publicartlethbridge.ca/current-calls/.

In 2020, the first phase of the project was launched with a call to local business and facility owners interested in beautifying their building exteriors with murals. This process identified several exciting mural opportunities within the city.

Murals help add vibrancy to the community by activating public spaces, promoting community expression, and deterring graffiti vandalism. This project will serve as a pilot to inform the potential future development of an established mural program.

Artists not currently residing in Lethbridge but who have previous ties to the community are also welcome to submit. Selected artists will be matched with building owners who are interested in enhancing their facilities with exterior murals as identified in the first phase of the project.

The deadline for artist submissions is March 19, 2021. Any questions can be directed to the City of Lethbridge Public Art Committee at publicart@lethbridge.ca.
