New 4-Way Stop Downtown

‚ÄčTo improve traffic flow and safety, a new four-way stop is being introduced, starting Thursday, Jan. 18, downtown at the intersection of 5 Avenue South and 8 Street South.

Based on ongoing analysis by Transportation staff, this intersection has been identified for a four-way stop to address traffic volumes and the number of right-angle collisions at this location. These new traffic controls will also enhance traffic safety during construction of the new Regional Park 'n' Ride Transit Terminal, which is scheduled to begin later this week along the 700 block of 5 Avenue South.

Starting Thursday morning, new traffic signs will be in place, and signage will be posted around this intersection to advise motorists of this change to traffic controls. During construction, westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane along the 700 block of 5 Avenue South. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to take note of these changes and follow any additional traffic controls related to construction.

In addition, a total of 31 metered parking stalls along the east, south and west perimeters of the construction site will close permanently as of Jan. 18. These spaces will be converted to bus parking and access points for the new transit terminal.
