New property addressing requirements come into effect next week

Residents with a property that borders an alley have until April 24 to put their house number at the rear of their property.

Under a Naming and Addressing Bylaw approved by City Council in the spring of 2017, residential, commercial and industrial property owners are now required to have address numbers plainly visible on the rear of their property. Properties with no rear lane are exempt from this new rear address requirement.

Address numbers must be at least 10 cm (4 inches) in height and plainly visible from the alley, whether that be on a fence, garage or back of your home or building.

The bylaw was designed based on best practices established by other municipalities across Alberta and is intended to help emergency service providers, utility providers and external agencies such as Canada Post.
