The construction of a new multipurpose facility at Henderson Lake Park located near Mayor Magrath Drive South is proceeding accordingly, and the construction is projected to be complete by the end of summer 2021.
This new facility is City-owned and will be operated by the Lethbridge and District Japanese Garden Society. It will enhance both the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden and Henderson Lake Park visitor experiences by:
- Providing Garden visitors with new and improved cultural, historical, horticultural and other related programming and exhibits outside the Garden.
- Providing a venue for event and meeting space for public and private functions taking place in the community, the Park, or the Garden.
The construction of the facility is now visible from Mayor Magrath drive with the roof and windows being installed. The next step of construction will be to pour the concrete slab floor. The concrete pouring will result in temporary Henderson Lake walking pathway detours from April 20-22 (weather permitting). Please see detour map below:
On April 15 the Lethbridge & District Japanese Garden Society presented the proposed name of the Nikka Yuko Bunka Centre (meaning Cultural Centre) at the Cultural and Social Standing Policy Committee. The committee will present the name at a future City Council meeting for approval.
