Northside residential structure fire

At approximately 8:20 a.m. Tuesday morning, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of 4 Avenue North.

Twenty-one crew members from three stations, as well as six members of the Coaldale Fire Department, arrived and battled defensive fighting conditions and freezing temperatures for most of the day.

No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported.

The residence was a total loss, but the estimated financial damage is not yet available.

Update on November 10:

Fire investigators have concluded the scene portion of their investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances. The fire has been classified as accidental, with the cause being a cooking fire.

The structure is unsalvageable.

A neighbouring property suffered extensive water-related structural damage and has been temporarily vacated. Structures on either side of the fire remain occupied but also sustained some water and structural damage.

The Fire Prevention Bureau would like to remind residents that when cooking food in an unconfined manner (stovetop) it should never be left alone. If you have to leave the kitchen, turn off the heat source.
