Online booking launched for all public skating and RecEx public swimming options

The latest changes brought forward by the Government of Alberta to reduce the spread of COVID-19 have meant quick changes by many to adjust to the new public health guidelines.

In an effort to make researching permitted recreation options more accessible to the community and to help staff manage attendance at popular programs, online booking is now available for all public skating opportunities.

Online booking has also been enabled at pools and leisure centres managed by Recreation Excellence (RecEx). Bookings can be made for a variety of options at Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre and Stan Siwik Pool.

Due to the quick launch of the online booking system to accommodate COVID-19, there are a few things users should be aware of:

  • You must have an account in order to book your spot for public skating or swimming. Adult users can add family members to the account.
  • If your family has an existing online account for swimming, you will need to log in at and re-add family members. Although the online booking sites look the same, it is only partially connected and not all information is able to be brought over from the swimming portal.

  • Every individual – particularly those in family or group bookings – must be registered for their own spot in the chosen session.

  • The system does not currently accept online payments but it will secure spots at specific sessions. Activity participants are asked to make payments at the arena or pool before their assigned session using cash, debit or credit card.

Visitors are reminded that public skating is designed for leisurely skating and stick and puck play is only permitted at public shinny skates, which are on hold due to COVID-19 guidelines.
