Reminder-Property Taxes Due by June 30

Lethbridge property owners are reminded that 2017 property taxes are due by June 30. Payments received after this date will be assessed a seven-per-cent late payment penalty, which amounts to $70 for every $1,000 in outstanding property taxes.

Cash, cheques and debit card payments are accepted by cashiers on the main floor at City Hall, 910-4 Avenue South from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through this Friday, June 30. To avoid potential line ups, tax payers are encouraged not to leave payments until the last minute.

If you have online banking, you can pay your taxes electronically using the 13-digit roll number located in the top right section of your tax notice. Cheques or money orders (do not enclose cash) can also be dropped off using the drop box at the front door of City Hall or the drive-thru drop box at 1010-4 Avenue South. The City does not accept credit card payments, but tax payers may refer to the back of their tax notices for information on how to use a third-party credit card service provider to make payment for a fee.

If you have recently purchased property and/or have not received a 2017 Tax Notice, please contact Assessment & Taxation staff at 403-320-3950. Late payment penalties will not be waived for non-receipt of Tax Notices.

Another way to avoid late payment penalties in the future is to enroll in our convenient monthly Tax Instalment Prepayment Plan (TIPP), which reduces your tax with a one per cent annual discount credit. Property owners whose 2017 taxes are paid in full can sign up for TIPP by July 20 to be enrolled in the program for their 2018 property taxes. Please visit or call the Assessment and Tax office for further information on this program.
