A new online Citizen Budget Allocator is being launched today that allows Lethbridge residents to explore how they would allocate the City's budget for municipal services. Residents will be able to design a budget to operate the City of Lethbridge and they will be able to see how a decrease or increase in spending would impact their property taxes. They can also make comments regarding their selections.
On May 19, 2020, City Council approved a motion to undertake a review of the 2021-2022 Operating Budget to consider the impacts of COVID-19, the KPMG operational review and possible amendments to the Alberta provincial budget. The Operational Budget review is scheduled to take place the week of November 23, 2020.
The Lethbridge Citizen Budget Allocator is the latest opportunity for residents to examine existing City services and how they compare with their own priorities. It is an education and awareness tool intended to enhance residents' understanding of what goes into the City's operating budget.
The Citizen Budget Allocator will be available until Nov. 6 by visiting https://getinvolvedlethbridge.ca/2019-2022-operating-budget1 and selecting the 2021-22 Operating Budget Review project.
Council will receive all of the data collected in the Citizen Budget Allocator prior to the start of the Operational Review on Nov. 23. This resident feedback will assist Council in making budget decisions.
