At approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday May 14th, fire crews were dispatched to a grass fire in the river valley near the weir. Upon arrival, flames had spread to an area of about 1500 square feet and was damaging large trees. The fire was under control within 30 minutes. A fire investigation was completed yesterday afternoon and the cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of smoking materials.
A reminder to residents that if you plan on visiting the river bottom to enjoy the walking and biking trails and smoke while doing so, please dispose of smoking materials, such as cigarettes, into a non-combustible container. When driving, avoid throwing smoking materials outside of the vehicle.
