Due to very wet, muddy and slippery conditions, the RiverStone Dog Park off-leash area will be closed temporarily, effective Tuesday, April 10. Park rehabilitation planning is currently underway and improvements to the park are expected to be made as soon as possible.
The RiverStone Dog Park was constructed in 2016 and opened to the public late last summer. This dog park is the first of its kind in the city and has proven to be a very popular destination for dog owners. The popularity of this park, coupled with last summer's heat and this winter's level of precipitation, has overwhelmed the new grass.
We are examining options for grass rehabilitation as well as hardier ground cover materials. An update will be provided once the rehabilitation and reopening schedule has been determined.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the city's other off-leash areas at Scenic Drive South, Peenaquim Park, and Popson Park. Residents are also reminded that dogs are required to be on a leash unless in designated off-leash areas.
