The dog days of summer just got better as the gates swing open on the new RiverStone Dog Park in west Lethbridge. As of August 24, this new and exciting neighbourhood amenity is officially open to the public.
Located at the southernmost entrance to RiverStone (University Dr. W and Riverglen Link W), the park is 2.77 acres with approximately 2 acres fenced for off-leash play. Amenities include doggie play equipment, water fountains for people and dogs, accessible seating, pathways and a small dedicated parking lot.
Residents and their four legged friends have been patiently waiting for the grass to establish in the park over the summer months. This process took longer than anticipated due to the dry, hot summer and the need for additional irrigation.
The majority of the park is now complete but additional dog play equipment will be coming soon and snake barrier fencing coming soon.
RiverStone Unleashed, a grand opening event for the dog park, will be held on Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will include a ribbon cutting, a 2km dog walk and a party in the park with a free BBQ, face painting, photo booth and a pet fair. For more information on this event, visit www.riverstoneunleashed.com.
