As construction of the City's Regional Park 'N' Ride Transit Terminal continues, a section of 8 Street South between 4 and 5 Avenue South will be closed. This closure will take effect October 31 and is anticipated to last until November 6, weather permitting.
This impressive downtown structure has been quickly assembled over the last several weeks using pre-cast concrete. Now that all major pieces are in place, the contractor will dismantle the on-site crane. The road closure will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and the public during this time. Construction crews continue to close in the structure so indoor finishing work can be completed over the winter months.
This new facility will provide a central location for residents in surrounding communities to park their vehicle and access regional transit. Similarly, Lethbridge residents can access City transit to the terminal when taking a regional trip.
In addition, the terminal will replace the transit hub currently located on 4 Avenue South, freeing up much needed downtown parking space and decrease the chance for collisions.
The terminal will include ticket stations, washrooms, protection from the weather and a safe and easy place to transfer buses. The upper levels of the structure will also serve as a parkade.
The Regional Transit Park 'N' Ride is anticipated to open in the spring of 2019. For more information visit www.lethbridge.ca/parknride .
