Road and Lane Closures Walsh Drive and Heritage Blvd Intersection

Single-lane travel on Northbound and Southbound University Drive

* Update: Beginning at 8am on Sunday, June 24, flag people will be in the area of University Dr. and Walsh Dr. to direct traffic as a new traffic signal is installed.

Please watch for lane closures intermittently over the next month to facilitate construction in the area. Motorists can expect University Drive to be reduced to a single travel lane for both northbound and southbound traffic through the intersection of Walsh Drive and Heritage Blvd West.

To date, the work associated with this intersection improvement has taken place primarily outside of the existing road, which has resulted in minimal traffic disruption. These lane closures are  required in order to facilitate the safe construction of new lanes.

These interruptions can be expected until mid-July, weather permitting. Temporary traffic control signs will be in place.

Walsh Drive Closed to traffic between Argyll Road and University Drive West

Effective Wednesday, June 20 at 9 a.m.  Walsh Drive will be closed to traffic between Argyll Road and University Drive West.  This road closure is required in order to facilitate the construction of a new concrete median and new travel lanes, including:

  • Dual eastbound left turn lanes
  • Dedicated eastbound straight through lane
  • Eastbound right turn lane
  • Southbound to westbound added lane
  • Westbound through lane

This closure will be in place for six to eight weeks, weather permitting. Detour signs will be in place.

These improvements will increase the capacity of Walsh Drive and at the intersection with University Drive to handle the increased traffic resulting from the completion of Métis Trail from Whoop-Up Drive to Walsh Drive, which will add a critical link to the West Lethbridge arterial road network.
