Starting today, the westbound lanes between Stafford Drive South and 7 Street South will be closed to traffic as crews begin working on a watermain renewal.
Eastbound traffic in this area will be reduced to a single lane. Northbound and southbound traffic will not be permitted through the intersection at 8 Street South and 5 Avenue South.
Business access will be maintained but parking in the area will be limited. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and to follow posted detours.
Work in this area is expected to be complete by mid-July, although partial lane closures along these blocks may remain in effect until the end of September as concrete is transported into the Park 'n' Ride Transit Terminal site. Additional closures will be required in the 400 block of 7 Street South and the 400 block of 8 Street South later this summer to complete the watermain renewal.
The watermain renewal project will improve service to existing businesses in the area and support the infrastructure needed for the new Lethbridge Regional Park 'n' Ride Transit Terminal over the next six to 12 months.
The full project schedule, detour routes and a parking map is available at www.lethbridge.ca/5AveS.
