Vaccination Policy Update

The City of Lethbridge is pleased to report that the vast majority of staff are fully vaccinated as per the corporate vaccination policy. As of Monday, November 15, 95 per cent of City staff have reported their vaccination status and of those, 96 per cent are fully vaccinated or in the process of becoming fully vaccinated.

"We want to send a huge thank you out to all of our staff for doing their part to protect not only their own health but also the health and wellbeing of their co-workers," says Jason Elliott, General Manager of People and Culture for the City of Lethbridge.

In late September, the City made the decision to implement a vaccination policy for all staff and have been working over the last several weeks to gather information and gain compliance with this new policy.

The deadline for all City staff to be vaccinated was November 15 and those not in compliance are now required to provide a negative rapid test result prior to the beginning of every shift.

The City is reporting just four voluntary resignations related to the implementation of this new policy and no services have been impacted.

Specific to the City's emergency services, Lethbridge Fire and EMS have 94 per cent of staff reporting their status and of those, 97 per cent are vaccinated. Lethbridge Police Service have 96 per cent reporting and of those, 92 per cent are vaccinated.

"Similar to the rest of the City workforce, the Lethbridge Police Service has done an excellent job in stepping up and complying with the new vaccination policy," says Inspector, Jason Walper. "Because of this commitment, we've been able to continue providing the critical services our community needs while keeping the safety of our staff and our community a priority."

Fire and EMS staff are bound to the Alberta Health Services policy which does not allow for a rapid testing option. The deadline for compliance in this area is November 30, 2021.

"The goal of this policy is to work with our employees so we can keep them safe and healthy," says Elliott. "We recognize this change hasn't been easy for some and we want to thank all of our staff for their continued patience, understanding and commitment during this ever changing pandemic."
