At approximately 7:55 a.m. this morning, fire crews were dispatched to a fire in the parking lot at 401 Highlands Blvd. W.
Crews arrived to find the contents of a non-City commercial garbage truck had been dumped onto the concrete parking lot to limit damage to the truck. The fire was quickly extinguished.
There were no injuries to the driver or to firefighters. Damage to the garbage truck is estimated to be about $5,000.
This fire has been concluded as accidental with no source of ignition found.
After debris is finished being collected, the company will clean the surface of the parking lot and will check water drains in the immediate area to ensure any contaminated water is safely removed.
Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind those using garbage bins and waste receptacles to be extra careful when disposing of any items that may be hot enough to ignite combustible materials.
