Starting the afternoon of Tuesday, May 2, eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured along Whoop-Up Drive, between Métis Trail and Aquitania Boulevard West, for installation of storm water sewer lines.
This work is part of the larger Whoop-Up Drive twinning construction project, and this detour will remain in effect until Friday afternoon, May 5. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in construction areas and to follow any posted speed limits or detours.
Whoop-Up Drive twinning
Stage 1 of construction is underway on the south side of the existing two-lane section of Whoop-Up Drive, between Coalbanks Gate West and 30 Street West.
Once work on new lanes on the south side of Whoop-Up Drive is completed, construction will begin on the Blackfoot Road and Aquitania Blvd intersections during the summer months this year when school is out. Completion of the Whoop-Up Drive project is expected by November 2018, weather permitting.
Métis Trail construction
Stage 1 of Métis Trail construction began this week between Jerry Potts Boulevard West and Caledonia Boulevard West and will include construction of a new section of Caledonia Blvd between Metis Trail and Aquitania Blvd. No impact to traffic is expected during this stage.
This Stage 1 section is expected to be completed and open to traffic by late August 2017 (weather permitting) in time for the start of the new school year. Completion of the Métis Trail construction project is expected by September 2018, weather permitting.
