Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 12, two eastbound lanes of Whoop-Up Drive will be closed for crews to work on asphalt milling in advance of a paving project.
One eastbound lane will remain open while this portion of the work is completed.
Starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, all eastbound lanes of Whoop-Up Drive will be closed, as paving will be done past the bridge deck towards the Scenic Drive overpass.
This work is expected to be completed by end of day Thursday, August 19, weather permitting.
Two-way traffic will be maintained via the westbound lanes and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h. Please consider using Highway 3 as an alternate route.
Eastbound traffic will be directed to the other side of the road via the median gate at the top of the westside. Motorists are asked to take turns merging and to be courteous to allow others in.
Message boards will be placed at key points to further advise the public.
While the closure is in place, crews may add additional work for bridge deck patching as well as further guardrail maintenance. Crack sealing and bridge washing has already taken place.
By fully closing the eastbound lanes, rather than having a rotational lane closure, the work can be finished sooner. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in this area and follow posted detours.
This project is funded through the existing Capital budget as part of the annual overlay program.
