Yard waste sites close for season on November 15, pumpkins accepted

Sunday, November 14, will be the final day this year to deliver to the three City of Lethbridge yard waste sites. They will close for the season on Monday, November 15.

To date in 2021, the sites have collected a total of 1.95 million kilograms (1,957.37 tonnes) of yard waste which was diverted from the landfill. This will be a new record of total tonnes received in one year at the yard waste sites. We could surpass 2,000 tonnes this season! Way to go, Lethbridge!

In regards to pumpkin composting: that Halloween jack-o-lantern is simply too good to waste! Clean pumpkins (without paint) can be taken to yard waste sites for composting. Pumpkins will be accepted in paper yard waste bags under 25 pounds or on their own.

Grass, leaves and garden waste collected at yard waste sites is composted at the Waste & Recycling Centre and used in city parks and for ground remediation at the landfill.

Since spring, the yard waste sites have been open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Bridge Drive West Recycling Station - at the top of Bridge Dr. W. hill, right before the junction of Bridge Dr. W. and University Dr.
  • Stafford Drive North Recycling Station - at the junction of Stafford Dr. N. and Scenic Dr. N.
  • South Side Recycling Station - located on 28 Ave. S. between the Lethbridge Soccer Complex and Lethbridge Judo Club

After the yard wastes sites close, residents can take this material to the Waste & Recycling Centre (landfill) for composting, with no disposal fees charged on Saturdays. The City's recycling stations which collect cardboard, glass, tin cans and plastic, remain open year round.

Fall leaf continues to accept requests for collection until November 12. Schedule your free pick up by calling 311 during business hours  and we will provide you with an approximate pick up date. More information here.

Also, a friendly reminder to all residents and commercial haulers about please trying to reduce litter when delivering and off-loading waste at the Waste & Recycling Centre: please bag it or tarp it. For additional information on other waste disposal options visit
