Emergency crews fight residential fire and extreme weather

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a residential fire on Trent Road West today. Heavy winds made the operation challenging but crews were able to prevent the spread to any adjacent property.

Unfortunately, the fire has destroyed the structure and damage is estimated at $300,000. A fire investigation will be completed and the Red Cross is supporting the impacted residents.

In addition to this, crews are monitoring several wildland fires in the area. At this time, these fires do not pose a risk to city residents. An emergency alert has been issued for wildfires in surrounding municipalities. More information can be found at www.albertaemergencyalert.ca.

Residents may see smoke and dust in the area. The Lethbridge 911 call centre is getting an extraordinarily high number of calls due to questions and uncertainty as to where fires are located. Please remember to only call 911 to report an emergency.

Residents are asked to use caution in the extreme weather. Strong winds and dry conditions are making the fire risks very high.
