Community Social Development works with social service providers to implement the priorities outlined in the Social Policy for the City of Lethbridge. With direction from City Council, these priorities include providing services and programs to the community including families with children, seniors, Indigenous people, youth, new Canadians and people with disabilities.
This department contracts and supports agencies in the community to provide social services for people with a focus on prevention and referring people to the right services: Family & Community Support Services, Housing and Homelessness and various other community projects. Examples of these projects include prevention of family violence and elder abuse, building assets in our children and youth, strategies to reduce the impact of poverty, building a welcoming and inclusive community, substance abuse response, Municipal Housing Strategy, to name a few.
