On September 1st 2016, Lethbridge will play host to the first stage of the 2016 Tour of Alberta, presented by ATB Financial. The race will begin in Galt Gardens at 4:50 p.m. and is expected to end between 7-8 p.m., featuring elite cyclists from around the world. The route will see competitors race from downtown, north on Scenic Drive to Peenaquim Park. They will then take on the challenging climb up and out of the river valley to get back to downtown. The 107 km race will consist of nine laps through this circuit finishing in Galt Gardens. The winner of this stage will win a one-of-a-kind piece of art made especially for this race, donated by local artist,
Michelle Gallucci.

All volunteer roles are now filled. Thanks to the hundreds of people who are helping on this exciting day and in the days leading up to it.
Community Festival presented by Crossings Shopping Centre
We invite the whole community to mark their calendars and look forward to a huge celebration and a prime location to watch the Tour of Alberta, presented by ATB Financial, as the cyclists pass the start/finish line at Galt Gardens nine times.
The free Community Festival, presented by Crossings Shopping Centre, will take place in Galt Gardens from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. The event will include activities for children in the Melcor KidZone, performances on the B-93/Country 95-5 Entertainment Stage, booths from local, provincial and international organizations and sponsors, a stage and a big screen to watch the race live as it runs through the city.
Melcor KidZone includes:
- 2 bouncy castles
- Balloon artists
- Open Streets Calgary
- YMCA BBQ
As well, the SAAG Art Area Powered by EmbroidMe will be an interactive, family art area in Galt Gardens during the Festival.
A bike valet will be available on site, organized by Bikebridge. We encourage everyone to ride their bikes to the Festival and enjoy the festivities while Bikebridge volunteers provide security for your bike!
