Coulee Plant Identification

Ever wondered what that beautiful little flower you've seen in the coulees is?
Discover the world of plant identification in this three-part workshop series.

Topics & Dates

Part 1: Flower Morphology
Thursday, May 26 | 6:30-8:30 pm

Part 2: Coulee Plants
Thursday, June 2 | 6:30-8:30 pm

Part 3: More Coulee Plants!
Thursday, June 9 | 6:30-8:30 pm

 Part 1: In the lab using dissecting scopes to understand flower morphology.
Part 2 & 3: Out in the coulees practicing id skills & getting to know our local plant communities.

Cost: $30 for all 3 sessions | Ages 16+ 


Birding Walks with Ken Orich

Join local bird expert Ken Orich for a morning of birding in some of his favourite hot spots in Lethbridge!

Meet in a different location each morning!

May 31 | 7:00am - 8:30am | Wetland

June 01 | 7:00am - 8:30am | River Valley

June 02 | 7:00am - 8:30am | Urban Park

Cost: $10 per sessions | Ages 12+
Binoculars will be provided if you don't have your own.

The Helen Schuler Nature Centre is proud to host Nature Play Day at Henderson Lake Park! Nature Play Day will provide families with the opportunity to try diverse outdoor activities from crafts to kayaking!

Programs will take place entirely outdoors. Cost: $35/ program

Choose from one of the following topics for your 1 hour private tour: 

  • Mammals – Explore the world of mammals big & small. Find out how to identify who is who.

  • Birds – The river valley is home to many different birds, some that stay year round & some that 
    are here for part of the year. Discover the amazing birds that can be found in Lethbridge. 

  • Cottonwood Forest – Discover the only native tree species found in Lethbridge. Explore some of the creatures that depend on the cottonwood forest.

Avian Summer | A film by Rick Andrews

"Avian Summer" is a locally produced wildlife documentary.

Discover the variety of birds that migrate into Southern Alberta each spring, where they come to find
a mate & raise the next generation, before migrating south again in the fall.

Rick Andrews is a conservation wildlife photographer & film maker from Southern Alberta.  
His work connects people with wildlife while promoting the importance of protecting 
& restoring our natural world for future generations.
