Avian Summer - Online Film

Discover the variety of birds that migrate to Southern Alberta each spring, where they come to find
a mate and raise the next generation, before migrating again in the fall.

The film is 37 minutes in length and was produced by Rick Andrews over the past two years.

Rick Andrews is a conservation wildlife photographer and film maker from Southern Alberta. 
His videos and photos help audiences connect with the diversity of wildlife while encouraging the protection, conservation, and restoration of our natural world.

Rick Andrews has developed a collection of films showcasing resident wildlife in Southern Alberta, including the full-length documentary Wildlife of the Oldman River Valley (2018), as well as documentary shorts including: 
Great Horned Owls (2020), Country Club Marmots (2019), and Lethbridge Wild Turkeys (2018). 

Proceeds from Avian Summer will benefit the Growing the Grassroots Endowment Fund in support of
nature-based interpretive programming at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. 

Your support of Avian Summer will benefit the Nature Centre as it grows with our community. 
Additional donations can be made directly to the Friends of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Society at 


 The Nature Centre is offering 1 hour long science curriculum based fieldtrips for your family.

Choose from one of the following topics:

Creepers and Fliers – Take a closer look at some of the small crawling and flying animals found in Lethbridge. Explore where these animals live and learn key ways to identify different groups of species.

Plant Life – Lethbridge is home to more than 400 species of plants.
Discover some of the amazing adaptations local plants have for surviving here in Southern Alberta.

Cottonwood Forest – Discover the only native tree species found in Lethbridge.
Explore some of the creatures that depend on this cottonwood forest.
