Dive into the world of food forestry & permaculture! 

Join Mandy Sandbach of SOULfully SOIL for a Hands-On Workshop Weekend!

Learn how to create long standing, abundant, perennial food systems right at home in this 2-day workshop.

Edible Forest Gardening designs can be adapted for small & large scales and are an excellent choice for
both urban & rural settings.

This series covers all aspects of growing an edible oasis including:
· Water harvesting techniques
· How to grow healthy SOIL's
· Companion planting & guild building
· Plant identification & selection
· Site work pre & post installation
· Community & environmental implications

Explore two diverse environments where you will discover what Edible Forest Gardening can produce.

 Each day will include an outdoor tour! Dress for the weather.

Adult Watercolour Painting Workshop


September 13, 20, & 27 | 1:30pm - 4:00pm

Join local artist Karina Mak & take your appreciation for nature a step further with this 
3 day introduction to watercolour painting workshop.

This course is designed for beginners with an interest to learn & explore watercolour painting techniques.
Gain the tools you need to turn the inspiration you find outside into wonderful watercolour paintings.

 The Nature Centre is offering 1 hour long guided fieldtrips! 
Join one of our education staff & discover the amazing plants & animals found right here in Lethbridge!

Choose from one of the following topics:

MammalsDiscover the world of mammals big and small. Find out how to identify who is who.

Birds The river valley is home to many different birds, some that stay year round & some that
are here for part of the year. Discover some of the amazing birds that can be found right here in Lethbridge. 

Plant Life – Lethbridge is home to more than 400 species of plants.
Discover some of the amazing adaptations local plants have for surviving here in Southern Alberta.


Cottonwood Forest – Discover the only native tree species found in Lethbridge.
Explore some of the creatures that depend on this cottonwood forest.

Avian Summer - Online Film

Discover the variety of birds that migrate to Southern Alberta each spring, where they come to find 
a mate and raise the next generation, before migrating again in the fall. 

Avian Summer is available for online rental or digital download (go to naturecentre.ca/aviansummer). 
The film is 37 minutes in length and was produced by Rick Andrews over the past two years.

Rick Andrews is a conservation wildlife photographer and film maker from Southern Alberta. 
His videos and photos help audiences connect with the diversity of wildlife while encouraging the protection, conservation, and restoration of our natural world.

Rick Andrews has developed a collection of films showcasing resident wildlife in Southern Alberta, including the full-length documentary Wildlife of the Oldman River Valley (2018), as well as documentary shorts including: 
Great Horned Owls (2020), Country Club Marmots (2019), and Lethbridge Wild Turkeys (2018). 

Proceeds from Avian Summer will benefit the Growing the Grassroots Endowment Fund in support of 
nature-based interpretive programming at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. 

Your support of Avian Summer will benefit the Nature Centre as it grows with our community. 
Additional donations can be made directly to the Friends of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Society at www.NatureCentre.ca/donate
