Downtown Lethbridge is regarded as a unique place within the City - it is considered to be the Heart of our wonderful city. In September of 2007, City Council recognized the special nature of Downtown and adopted the Heart of Our City Master Plan as a framework to transform downtown into a distinct area warranting exceptional planning, taxation rules, development standards and public investment.
With the adoption of the Heart of Our City Master Plan, City Council formed a strategic committee called the Heart of Our City Committee to champion Downtown Lethbridge and provide strategic leadership with revitalization efforts. Further, the Urban Revitalization Manager (formerly Downtown Revitalization Manager) position was formed to lead the efforts administratively.
