Nicholas Sheran Ice Centre Renovation & Expansion

The Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre is located at 401 Laval Blvd West.

The functional needs of the facility changed due to an increase in female participation in sporting events. The University of Lethbridge's female Pronghorns Team is now a major tenant and dedicated dressing rooms were necessary to support their recruiting and sporting program. There was a requirement for additional change rooms during provincial and national tournaments.

Establishing a centralized Operations Centre for the Alberta Sport Development Centre and Lethbridge Sport Council has allowed for a more effective use of space and improved the working relationship between the two groups. It also improved their community presence and accessibility.

The Expansion of approximately 630 sq. m. (410 sq. m. first floor, 220 sq. m. second floor) provides:

  • Dedicated female Pronghorns change rooms.
  • Two additional community change rooms.
  • Dedicated office space for:
    • Alberta Sport Development Centre
    • Lethbridge Sports Council

The funding sources towards this project were:

  • City of Lethbridge: $1,750,000
  • Recreation Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Grant: $500,000
  • TELUS: $350,000

The Total Project Budget for the Nicholas Sheran Ice Centre renovation and expansion wass: $2,600,000
