Project Update

March 2020

Further to the revised resolution for project D-39 Southern Alberta Art Gallery Facility Enhancements, this project will be discontinued from the current Capital Improvement Plan for the current four-year cycle (2018-2021) and the re-scoped project may be resubmitted for consideration in the next Capital Improvement Plan.

About the Project

In 1976, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) opened its doors.  Their goal was to present the work of innovative/intuitive artists who pushed the boundaries of their discipline, to encourage broad public engagement, and to promote awareness and exploration of artistic expression.

To function professionally and efficiently, an expansion of the SAAG facility is necessary in order to increase programs for learners of all ages, undertake a wider diversity of projects and engage artists from broader geographic origins.

This project will review the existing needs assessment and confirm all requirements.  Areas that have been identified for improvement:

  • learning commons
  • environmental storage and loading dock
  • administrative space and common room
  • possible food services space in support of program and opportunities

The user group is currently undertaking a Business Case study to confirm the project scope.
