Project Updates

April 2019: Construction begins with the initial stage of the new northbound lanes being developed off University Drive in the large grassed boulevard east of the road. This stage will not require any road closures but motorists may experience temporary traffic interruptions and reduced speed.

Future stages of the project will involve partial and/or complete intersection closures.

September 2018: The project design is nearing 75% completion. Some early work has begun to prep the site for construction next year. This includes the removal of two groups of trees along University Dr. that was needed to make room for the eventual addition of traffic lanes. This it the only landscaping that should have to be removed for this project as all other trees were planted further back in anticipation of the road expansion.

Residents may also notice some surveying along University Dr. as crews work to locate underground utilities as part of the design process.

About the Project

University Drive is a major north-south arterial road with connections to the University of Lethbridge, Whoop-Up Drive, Highway 3.

The construction of this road will provide needed access for continued growth in southwest Lethbridge and ultimately provide the main connection for the third river crossing.

This project includes the design and construction of the second two lanes of University Drive West from the existing four-lane section just south of the University of Lethbridge Stadium access to Sunridge Blvd and the new access to RiverStone.
