About the Project
This project is the construction of a new leisure swimming pool. This project is an alternative to building a full Leisure centre. You can learn more about the full Leisure Centre project here.
A fully accessible leisure style aquatic centre does not exist within our current inventory of swimming pools. The aquatic centre would be comprised of a lobby, wave pool, tot pool, adult
whirlpool, family whirlpool, lazy river, two water slides, sauna, steam room, and an eight lane 25m tank. The tot and wave pools will incorporate zero entry areas with interactive play
structures. The fitness area will substantially increase participation and membership by adults as they participate in a healthy lifestyle on their own or while their children use the pool facilities. Deck space will include parent viewing areas with table, chairs and lounge chairs with on-deck viewing of the lane pool to watch lessons. Change rooms would include fully accessible spaces for men, women and families.
The 2012 Lethbridge Leisure Centre Needs Assessment and the 2013 Recreation and Culture Master Plan identified a large need and demand for an aquatic leisure facility that includes amenities and services not currently available in other swimming pools in Lethbridge. The assessment identifies the need for different physical structures and additional swimming pool space to accommodate programming and lessons which are currently at capacity.
During the first half of 2012 more than 400 children were on waiting lists for swim lessons. The variety of available activity areas in the Aquatic Leisure Centre will cater to a wide variety of users with varying levels of ability.
