Project Description

With traffic growth on the Whoop-Up Drive, it is expected that major capacity issues will arise on the two interchanges at the east and west ends of the river crossing. With City Council wanting to delay a third river crossing as long as practical, Whoop-Up Drive remains the primary route within our transportation system connecting east and west Lethbridge.

The Transportation Master Plan has indicated that there is adequate capacity along Whoop-Up Drive; however, the interchanges at Scenic Drive and University Drive currently experience some capacity and congestion issues which will exacerbate in future unless improvements are made.  Over the next five to ten years some improvements are thought to be necessary. This study will identify the improvements most practical to increase traffic flow with a reasonable investment.
