The final stages of the Whoop-Up Twinning project have been completed.

For two days, Whoop-Up Drive was closed in both direction from McMaster Boulevard to the Métis Trail roundabout to complete asphalt construction in the area.

Due to the cold, long some construction activities are delayed. The contractor was back on site for this construction season as of April 19, 2018. The following activities have been completed:
- Asphalt stripped for median construction between Blackfoot Road and Métis Trail
- Concrete curb poured for north side of median between Blackfoot Road and Métis Trail
- First asphalt lift has been completed westbound between Blackfoot Road and Métis Trail roundabout.
Oct. 10, 2017
Effective Monday, Oct. 16, the access to Blackfoot Road West from Whoop-Up Drive will be closed temporarily for intersection improvements as part of the Whoop-Up Drive Twinning project.
This intersection closure is expected to be in effect until the end of October, weather permitting. During this period, the pedestrian crossing at this intersection will remain open to foot traffic between the Varsity Village and Blackfoot neighbourhoods.
Motorists are advised to follow posted detours and use alternative routes to access the Blackfoot neighbourhood via Métis Trail/Blackfoot Boulevard West or Jerry Potts Boulevard West/ Red Crow Boulevard West.
Sept. 29, 2017
Construction of new eastbound lanes of Whoop-Up Drive has been completed from 30 Street West to west of the Blackfoot Road intersection. Construction activity is now focused on the section of Whoop-Up Drive between Métis Trail and Jerry Potts Boulevard West/McMaster Boulevard West. Single-lane traffic in each direction is being maintained in this area while underground work takes place along the original lanes of Whoop-Up Drive until mid-October.
Work will continue until freeze-up later this fall and then resume in the spring. During the winter months, all new sections of Whoop-Up Drive will be open to four lanes of traffic.
Sept. 11, 2017
We are pleased to announce that the new roundabout is now open at the intersection of Whoop-Up Drive and Métis Trail.
In conjunction with the opening of this roundabout, Métis Trail is reopening between Whoop-Up Drive and Coalbanks Link West, and new sections of Whoop-Up Drive are open to traffic between Métis Trail and 30 Street West.
Motorists will navigate this roundabout in the same way as the roundabout at the Garry Drive West-Squamish Boulevard West intersection. For information on using roundabouts, visit: www.lethbridge.ca/roundabouts.
