In the 2007 City of Lethbridge Recreation and Culture Facility Master Plan, it was identified that upgrades to the Yates Memorial Centre were of high importance to the community. This resulted in a funding request to conduct a needs assessment for a new performing arts centre.
The consulting team of Ferrari Westwood Babits were contracted and following extensive community consultation, a report was filed with City Council in the spring of 2010. City Council then requested a report to be done validating the operating budget of the proposed Performing Arts Centre and a report on potential funding sources.
Schick Shiner and Associates were contracted and by working with the Steering Committee, their report was filed with City Council assessing the original study. It was presented on October 17, 2011.
The proposed Performing Arts Centre will be designed to meet the performance requirements of theatre, music and dance artists and promoters.
Functional Planning has been performed. The scope of this work entailed stakeholder input on functional requirements as well as the conceptual design of the facility.
The design will include environmentally sustainable building features where feasible.
The Total Budget for the Functional Planning was: $500,000.00 and was funded by the City of Lethbridge.
Further Planning and design work is required but not yet approved.
