Appliances can be found all throughout your home and include everything from kitchen appliances like fridges, microwaves ovens, dishwashers and kettles, to air conditioners, laundry machines and more. Appliances are usually made of a combination of plastics, metals and electronics which makes recycling them more complex. Find out how to manage your unwanted appliances below.
What's the best option for managing my appliances?
Look for appliances that are multi-taskers, that perform more than one appliance function (for example, multi-cookers that are a slow-cooker, pressure cooker, rice cooker, all in one appliance!)
Donate your gently used appliances to a local charity and or a thrift store. Repair the appliance if possible instead of buying new - click here for a list of local repair shops.
There is a special area for collection of appliances at the Waste and Recycling Centre - please ask scale house operator for directions on site. For other appliance recycling options, search the Waste Wizard!
If you are unable to come to the Waste and Recycling Centre, you can call 311 and request a Large Item Service pick-up. For more information about Large Item Service pick-up click here. Never place appliances in your blue cart.
