About Us

The City of Lethbridge Electric Utility (LEU) focuses on four areas of service:

Transmission

LEU is a Transmission Facility Owner operating as part of the integrated Alberta system and regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission. The  Alberta Independent System Operator compensates the City of Lethbridge for owning operating and maintaining Lethbridge's transmission system.

Distribution

LEU is a Wire Services Provider (WSP) and operates the local distribution system.  As a WSP, LEU is regulated by the City of Lethbridge with City Council as our Board of Directors.  All costs relating to capital expansion, operation and maintenance are collected from our ratepayers.  The City of Lethbridge is required to pay the province for access to the overall interprovincial grid - these costs are passed directly through to ratepayers as per legislated requirements.

Energy Provider

The City of Lethbridge provides energy to utility customers who do not choose to purchase their energy through a retailer.  Energy is provided through the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) or the Regulated Default Supply (RDS).

Fibre Services

We provide dark fibre services to public oriented organizations operating within the boundaries of the City of Lethbridge.
