About our street sweeping program
Each year, City of Lethbridge street sweeping crews clean thousands of tonnes of sand and debris from about 540 kilometres of city roads. Sweeping the streets prevents materials from washing into the Oldman River via our storm sewer system, reduces dust and makes the streets safer for getting around.
Spring Sweeping
- City-wide program.
- No parking signs are placed in a specific neighbourhood the day before to notify residents of street sweeping the following day.
- All vehicles must be moved before 7:30 a.m. on street sweeping days. Parking tickets will be issued to vehicles that are not moved from the street, as per the traffic bylaw. Sweepers will work around vehicles parked on the street but they will not return to your area. When the area is complete, signs will be removed and parking can resume.
- The day before the arrival of the street sweepers, you may sweep sanding materials off of sidewalks onto the street for clean up
Fall Sweeping
- Targeted residential sweeping to manage fallen leaves in heavily treed neighbourhoods.
Industrial and Night Sweeping
- Major roads, downtown and industrial areas are swept at night during summer/fall.
