Apartment and Condo Services
The City of Lethbridge is committed to ensuring recycling and organics collection services are provided to apartments and condominiums. All apartments and condos in the city must have access to a recycling program and an organics program to divert waste away from our landfill. The City of Lethbridge will collect and deliver recyclables to the receiving facility and organics to the compost facility.
Per the City's Waste Bylaw, apartments and condos must:
- Provide separate bins for recycling and organics. Both options must be made available for residents to use.
- Provide adequate sizes and numbers of containers for each waste stream.
- Set up clear signage to show residents how to use the bins properly.
- Provide annual education on recycling and compost programs to residents, as well as when a new resident moves in.
Recycling Collection
As part of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, producers (manufacturers) are financially responsible for managing recycling in Alberta.
Multi-family properties in Lethbridge can receive recycling services at no cost by registering through Circular Materials.
Organics Collection
The City offers organics collection services for all apartments and condos. Each property must provide a communal organics bin that is accessible to all residents.
Property managers can contact Lethbridge 311 to request organics collection services or discuss collection options for their property. Due to the unique circumstances of each property, the City of Lethbridge will work with managers to determine a collection setup that works for their building.
The organics collection rate for apartments and condos is $4.08/month/unit ($0.136/day/unit).

The Waste & Environment department operates on a cost recovery basis. Fees go towards the collection of materials, facility operations (utilities, staffing, and maintenance), maintenance of collection trucks and resources for education and outreach.
