Fire Bans

Current Fire Ban Status

River Valley Fire Advisory in effect

A Fire Advisory has been issued, effective December 22, 2023 for all City of Lethbridge parks in the River Valley area. This advisory has been put in place to inform residents of the current wildfire risks within our River Valley parks.

Under the advisory, recreational fires are allowed in the fire pits provided, as are propane-fueled cooking appliances. Residents are asked that all smoking material be disposed of properly.

Lethbridge Fire & EMS will be monitoring the fire risk conditions and make changes when necessary. If conditions worsen, the Fire Advisory may progress to a Restriction or Fire Ban at any time.

About Lethbridge fire bans

Fire bans are implemented by the chief fire marshal to prevent community fires. They temporarily ban backyard fire pits when conditions are hot and dry.

Residents are permitted to have a fire in a backyard fire pit when there is no fire ban in effect, as per our Open Burning Bylaw. Please continue to take precautions when having a backyard fire when no ban is implemented by using clean, dry firewood and ensuring that your fire is completely out before leaving.
