Fall Leaf Collection
Every October and November, the City of Lethbridge's Fall Leaf Collection program gives residents the option to have their bagged leaves collected at no cost. The program only accept fallen leaves bagged in paper yard waste bags. It does not accept branches, sod, soil or stumps.
For other yard waste materials, please use your green cart, the Yard Waste Sites or the Waste and Recycling Centre (Landfill).
How can I participate?
- Rake up your fallen leaves and put them into paper yard waste bags. Please limit the weight of each bag to 25 lbs (10 kg) or less. Close the top of the bag to ensure your leaves get picked up. Other yard waste (like branches, sod, soil or stumps) is not accepted.
- From October 1 to November 6, schedule your free pickup by calling 311 (during business hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). We will provide you with an approximate pickup date.
- Place your bags in the area where your curbside carts are normally collected, 24 hours before your scheduled fall leaf pickup. Keep at least 1.5 metres (3 feet) from your carts or other obstacles. Collections take place between October 6 and November 13.

Where do the leaves go?
Bagged leaves are taken to the Waste and Recycling Centre (Landfill) to be composted.
How do I get rid of excess leaves or other yard waste?
- Put leaves and yard waste in your curbside green cart.
- Drop leaves and yard waste off at a Yard Waste Site.
- Bring yard waste to the Waste & Recycling Centre (Landfill).
- Compost or mulch at home by starting your own backyard composter.
