5 Street South temporary road closures this week

As part of the Reimagine 5 Street South project, sewer inspections and survey work will start tonight with temporary traffic detours in place on 5 Street South between 1 Avenue South and 6 Avenue South. This work will help inform future decisions and construction planning. Crews will be working at night to lessen the impact on traffic in the downtown peak times and to ensure worksite safety. 

To inspect the sewer system, crews need to access manholes located in the roadway and parking lanes. Beginning Monday, July 21, until Thursday, July 24, full road closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on each consecutive block along the corridor:

• The block from 3 Avenue South to 4 Avenue South will be closed tonight at 9 p.m. and reopened Tuesday at 5 a.m.
• The block from 4 Avenue South to 5 Avenue South. will be closed Tuesday at 9 p.m. and reopened Wednesday at 5 a.m.
• The block from 5 Avenue South to 6 Avenue South will be closed Wednesday at 9 p.m. and reopened Thursday at 5 a.m.

Please be aware that this work may generate some additional noise. 

We ask all road users to follow posted traffic control signage and respect short-term no-parking notices to help crews complete the work efficiently and safely.
