Are you rainy day(s) ready?
There is rain on the way!

Ahead of what could be significant downfall in the coming days, we want to offer some important reminders. Because a little prep goes a long way.
- Clear the leaves and debris from your eavestroughs so the rainwater can flow freely and drain away from your house.
- Make sure your downspouts are pointing away from your home. This small change can stop water from pooling. Reduce the chance of water seeping into your house.
- Be a gudder buddy! Clear any leaves or debris covering storm drains near your house, before the rain arrives. If the drain is completely blocked, contact 311.
- Test your sump pump if you have one. Make sure it is working properly.
- Look for leaks in your basement during rain. Check for any signs of moisture.
- Make sure things outside your house are secure. Garbage bins and patio items can move around in rainy weather.
- Monitor your rain barrels. Make sure the extra water flows away from your house.
- Be careful in the coulees. The trails can be slippery and dangerous after it rains.
- Do not drive through large puddles. Even if the water is not very deep, it can hide problems and cause trouble for your vehicle.
- Check on your neighbours. Call them. Visit them to see if they need any help. This can make a difference for people who need assistance.
City crews will monitor the gravel access roads to Popson, Cottonwood and Alexander Wilderness Parks. If the rain makes the roads unsafe for driving, they will be closed and notices will be posted on the City of Lethbridge Facebook page. Crews are also on standby to clear debris or deal with other rain-related incidents, if needed.
