Boating Advisory no longer in effect

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services has lifted the boating advisory for the Oldman River and St. Mary River, effective immediately.
The advisory was issued on July 2 due to elevated river flows and hazardous conditions. Since then, water levels and flow rates have decreased, allowing normal recreational activities on and around the river to resume.
While conditions have improved, river users should continue to exercise caution. Water temperatures remain cold and reduced visibility can make submerged hazards difficult to see.
Anyone planning to float, paddle or boat on the river should:
- Wear a properly fitted lifejacket or personal flotation device
- Carry all required safety equipment, including a cell phone
- Check current river conditions before heading out
- Avoid alcohol and other intoxicants
- Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return
- Be aware of hazards, including the weir, which must be portaged around
River conditions can change quickly. Current river flow information is available at rivers.alberta.ca.
