Celebrate Sikoohkotoki’s third annual Blackfoot Winter Solstice
The City of Lethbridge (Sikoohkotoki) is proud to announce the 2025 Blackfoot Winter Solstice Celebration. The annual event honours the traditions and cultural heritage of the Blackfoot people.

It also reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and provides the community an opportunity to learn, share and celebrate together.

Schedule:
- 9:15 a.m. – Welcome & Smudge Ceremony – A traditional cleansing ritual led by Elder Ninnaa Piiksii Mike Bruised Head
- 9:45 a.m. - Storytelling – Learn the meaning of Winter Solstice and Blackfoot traditions
- 10:15 a.m. - Winter Count Creation – Witness the recording of significant events on traditional hide by Elder Api’soomaahka William Singer III
- 10:45 a.m. - Drum & Dance – Celebrate with music and a round dance bringing communities together
- 3:30 p.m. - FREE Public Skate – Promoting active living and community connection
- 4:30 p.m. - Pipe Ceremony – An adult-focused cultural ceremony in the City Hall foyer, located at 910 4 Avenue South (18+ only)
