Changes to Botterill Bottom Park access

Repairs to Whoop-Up Drive have been completed, following the August 6 incident, so the Botterill Bottom Road has now been re-opened.

The City is also advising all Botterill Bottom Park users of upcoming changes and safety considerations during the Water Treatment Plant upgrade project.

Construction traffic will be present throughout this upgrade, which has started and will ramp up further in 2026 and is anticipated to be complete by late 2027.

The emergency access road to Botterill Bottom Park, off eastbound Whoop-Up Drive, will be used by construction vehicles throughout the Water Treatment Plant project.

It will now be closed and only opened when construction vehicles require it, or for emergencies as needed.

This road runs directly through the Mountain Bike Park, creating potential conflict points between large trucks and recreational users. Signage will be updated.

Safety precautions for park users:

  • Use Botterill Bottom Road, rather than the emergency access road, to access the park and minimize interaction with construction traffic.
  • Exercise extreme caution near the access road. If you must cross or ride near the access road, slow down, look both ways, and ensure the path is clear before proceeding.
  • Avoid parking along the access road. Parking will not be permitted on the access road. Designated parking areas will be clearly marked at the bottom of the hill.

If you observe unsafe behaviour, please report them immediately by calling 311. Your feedback helps us maintain a safe environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety.
