Christmas Tree Collection sweeps city January 10

Another holiday season has come and gone, which means it’s time for our long-anticipated Christmas Tree Collection. This year’s city-wide collection will take place tomorrow, January 10.

To participate, place your live, undecorated Christmas trees at your usual curbside collection spot by 7 a.m. on January 10. Volunteers will sweep the entire city in one day, so please leave your tree out all day.

Trees must be completely bare and ready for chipping. All decorations, tinsel, plastics (including tree wraps and sheets) and tree stands must be removed. Trees with decorations will not be collected.

While volunteers do their best to be thorough and sweep every neighbourhood, they are not professional operations crews. Missed trees can happen. If your tree was accidentally missed, please contact 311. Missed collections will be scheduled for the following Saturday, January 17.

For the past 30 years, the City of Lethbridge has partnered with local youth groups to transform our live Christmas trees into 'giving trees'. More than 1.5 million kilograms, or approximately 95,000 trees, have been diverted from the landfill since the program's inception. Collected trees are turned into nutrient-rich compost or mulched for residents and Parks staff to use.
