City attending annual Polytechnic Coulee Fest

The City of Lethbridge is proud to partner with Lethbridge Polytechnic for their annual community celebration. Coulee Fest is tomorrow, September 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The action-packed event serves as a summer send-off for residents. It also welcomes new and returning students.

For the second year in a row, the fan-favourite Big Truck Zone returns for curious minds of all ages. Attendees can learn about the City’s public operations departments by getting up close with the heavy machinery they use.

“We’re excited to have some of our fleet on display with others at Coulee Fest,” says Leanne Lammertsen, Water & Wastewater Operations Manager. “So much of our daily work relies on our vehicles and hardworking public operations teams. The Big Truck Zone is a great way for residents to learn about it all. We can’t wait to greet you and show our support of this fantastic event.”

City departments showcasing their big rigs include:

  • Electric Operations
  • Parks and Cemeteries
  • Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services
  • Lethbridge Transit
  • Transportation Operations
  • Waste & Environment
  • Water & Wastewater

Vehicles on display will include graders, buses and waste collection trucks.

"Coulee Fest celebrates everything that makes our community vibrant,” says Stephanie Savage, Alumni & Community Engagement Manager, Lethbridge Polytechnic. “We’re grateful to the City of Lethbridge for being such a big part of it. It highlights the strong connection between post-secondary and our community.”

Lammertsen is an alumna of Lethbridge Polytechnic. She completed her civil engineering technology diploma in 2006. She’s excited to return to her alma mater to showcase the City’s public ops.

“As a former student and graduate, it’s incredibly rewarding to revisit the campus in a professional capacity and represent the City,” says Lammertsen. “It’s a full-circle moment to be back at the institution that helped set the foundation for my career as a public servant. I’m looking forward to interacting with local youth and students and inspiring future generations of public service.”

Meagan Williams, Community Partnership Specialist, graduated with a digital communications and media diploma in 2016. She understands the positive community impact of events like this.

“Coulee Fest is a shining example of how our city and campus communities thrive together,” says Williams. “This partnership with Lethbridge Polytechnic is a powerful reminder that community pride is built through connection, collaboration and celebration.”

"The City of Lethbridge is stepping up to show how important it is for our post-secondaries and the City to work together,” says Savage. “Our students are woven into the fabric of everything that makes this community so special. Our continued partnership with the City of Lethbridge helps shine a light on the energy, innovation and future that students bring to our community.”

Admission to the festival grounds is free. For more information about Coulee Fest, visit Lethbridge Polytechnic’s website.
