City Council approves its 2026-2029 Strategic Plan
Lethbridge City Council’s new Strategic Plan is committed to supporting existing businesses, attracting investment and strengthening Lethbridge’s role as a regional hub for agriculture, agri-food, advanced manufacturing, trade, logistics and emerging industries.
Council recently completed development of a 2026-2029 Strategic Plan to set a clear direction for this Council term. At Tuesday’s regular meeting, they officially voted to put it into action.
This Strategic Plan sets and communicates direction, aligns decision-making and demonstrates measurable progress and accountability across the organization and to the community. It informs governance, policy decisions and advocacy efforts, recognizing that it takes all levels of government and strong community partnerships to create a prosperous community. By aligning municipal systems, infrastructure and processes with strong partnerships, City Council will continue to position Lethbridge as a place where people and businesses can succeed.
“On behalf of Lethbridge City Council, I’m thrilled to introduce this new Strategic Plan to our community,” says Mayor Blaine Hyggen. “We truly believe that a thriving city is built through collaboration, accountability and a commitment to long-term wellbeing. This includes recognizing the critical role of post-secondary education in developing talent, advancing research and driving innovation across these sectors.”
The Strategic Plan affirms Council’s responsibility to foster safe, healthy and welcoming neighbourhoods, support arts, culture, sports, recreation and tourism, and guide growth through intentional planning and design. Protecting our natural environment, building climate resilience, and promoting responsible resource use remain essential to sustaining quality of life today and for future generations.
“Thank you to my colleagues whose insights helped to shape this Strategic Plan,” says Hyggen. “Your contributions ensure that the vision reflects the many varying perspectives of our community. We are excited to build a bright and sustainable future for Lethbridge.”
